Heart of the Forest

Perhaps you have been to a place that was so special to you, you felt your very heart had come from the earth

Maybe you possess a special kingship with trees. The heart of the forest is a project that dear to me.

Each tree represents a special forest in my life. places that are dear to my soul.

Some of them I visit often, some I can never return to, and others no longer exist.

There is a tall sentinel pine, sitting off the creak. Beneath its bowes and branches, is where you buried me.

Icy waters streaming by

Stream beds lined by cedar groves and pines

I long to feel a forest floor beneath my feet

and taste winter’s bitter burning breath between my teeth

I long for the song of a creaking canopy

The scent of evergreens clinging to dry leaves

A lone red maple in a dead wood cemetery

It’s just as red and dead as the heart inside of me.
